a piece of my art, explained
A piece of my art, explained.
I made this while re-watching an interview with Petra Collins for her book 'Coming of Age'. I got the book for my birthday this year, and haven't watched the interview again since having read the book. I love having it on my desk, looking at the photo of her sister, feeling the cover, flicking through the pages. A lot of her photos really scare me - some of them are so intense and violent. Its super interesting seeing her perspective on her early photos and how she semi-unintentionally put these weird vibes forward.
Anyway, I really liked making this collage. I made it in about half an hour and didn't stand back to look at it once. I've had the triangle print napkin stuck on the page for years, but only decided to do something with it today. I really like how the photo of the girl is segmented, so its kind of looks like the rest of the collage is the inside of her.
The text at the bottom of the page is a cutting of the references from Tavi Gevinson's essay for ILY magazine, called 'Like A Movie'. I cut out and stuck the entire essay on the previous pages in my scrapbook, because it meant so much to me. In it, she talks about seeing a play called 'The Flick', which I immediately found on the internet after finishing her essay. I read the screenplay in one sitting. One day I want to write a piece for the ILY magazine.
